SOUTH POINT - Nick Zundel took matters into his own hands.
Zundel not only baffled the South Point Pointers, he delivered the key hit as the Dragons beat the South Point Pointers 4-1 Monday in an Ohio valley Conference game.
“We played well and we got a nice ballgame pitched out of Zundel. We had one inning where we had a couple of scratch hits and one big hit by Zundel,” Fairland coach Roger Snyder said.
“Nick threw well. He had (the South Point batters) frustrated.”
Zundel struck out four and walked one as he pitched a five-hitter.
South Point got its run in the third inning when Beau Weed reached on a two-base error and Chris Brown had a run-scoring single.
Fairland came back to take a 3-1 lead the fifth inning.
Adam Berry walked, Ethan Long and Corey Blankenship had bunt singles to load the bases, and Zundel had a two-run double.
Adam Fuller hit a sacrifice fly to cap the rally.
The Dragons added a run in the sixth inning when Tyler Thackston walked, Chris Barnett had a bunt single and Long reached on a fielder’s choice as the run scored.
Fairland is now 7-4 and 3-4 in the OVC. South Point is 9-5 and 5-2.
