Five area players earn coaches#8217; all-academic honors

For the student/athlete, this is THE All-Ohio team.

The Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association has announced its academic All-Ohio teams and five area players have been honored.

The top 10 seniors in each of the boys and girls four divisions are selected.

Coal Grove guard Evan Melvin, Chesapeake guard P.J. Rase, Fairland guard Brianna Davis and Green guard Derek Lewis and center Brian Ramey were named to the all-academic team.

Players are selected based upon their academic excellence and contributions to their respective teams.

Melvin, Rase and Davis were honored in Division III. Lewis and Ramey are in Division IV.

Melvin averaged 11.1 points per game and had a 4.0 GPA. He is the son of John and Elaine Melvin.

Rase averaged 18 points per game and carries a 4.0 GPA. He is the son of Joe and Pam Rase.

Lewis had a 4.0 GPA and averaged 16.5 points a game.

Ramey had a 3.9 GPA and scored at an 18.0 clip. He is the son of Dale and Mary Ramey.

Davis averaged 22.4 points per game and has a 4.0 grade point average. She is the daughter of Barry and Joyce Davis.

Lewis was not only honored on the academic team, he was a scholarship recipient of $1,000 presented to senior sons and daughters of active members in the coaches association.

Lewis is the son of Kevin Lewis, who has been the boys head basketball coach at Green the past 10 years before resigning at the end of the 2005-06 season, and Susan Kellogg.

The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings basketball team garnered a collective honor. The Lady Vikings, under head coach Lisa Bryant, had a 3.940 grade point average and placed first among the top five teams honored.

Team members are Rebecca Capper, Amanda Provens, Emily Bowling, Jessica Neal, Kayla Saunders, Aida Aguinaga, Megan Coomes, Telissa Davis, Ashley Wilson, Brigette Thompson and Tiffany Bryant.

The GPA is based upon the first semester of the school year and the top nine players on the varsity roster in determining the team’s rank for the award.

The other four teams were Clermont Northeastern, Miami Trace, Elmwood and Wadsworth.
