St. Joseph Flyers coach Greg Bryant regrouped the batting lineup. The group of Michael Basedow, Pat Gagai and Ryan Schwab liked their new company.

The trio combined for a run in the ninth inning that gave the Flyers a 5-4 win over the Tolsia (W.Va.) Rebels Tuesday.

“We switched the lineup around to shake things up,” Bryant said. “We got good pitching and clutch hitting and played good defense. Tolsia is a good team.”

Basedow started the inning off with a double and stole third base. Gagai drew a walk and Schwab followed with a run-scoring single.

The rally gave Cory Lewis the win in relief of Ryan Waginger. It was Lewis’ first appearance of the season due to an injury.

“Cory was a nice shot in the arm, but I think what got lost in all that happened was Waginger pitched really well for seven innings until he got tired. He did a great job,” Bryant said.

St. Joseph took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Schwab singled, Chad Harvey put down a sacrifice bunt and a throwing error on the play scored Schwab.

Caleb Blackburn singled, moved to third base on a pair of wild pitches and scored on Gagai’s double as the Flyers upped the lead to 2-0 in the second inning.

The Flyers extended the lead to 4-0 with a pair of runs in the fourth inning.

Schwab doubled, Harvey singled and Jeremy Addis hit a sacrifice fly. Waginger grounded out as Harvey scored.

Tolsia’s Chris Waller hit a solo home run in the sixth inning to make it 4-1.

An error, a passed ball and a two-run double by Andrew Banfi enabled the Rebels to tie the game in the seventh inning. Waginger was able to choke off the rally and leave the bases loaded.

Neither team scored in the eighth inning to set up the Flyers winning rally in the ninth.

Gagai was 2-4 and Schwab 2- as the Flyers got nine hits.
