FRANKLIN FURNACE — Wild thing. You make my heart sing. Actually, you make my heart stop a few times.

In a game that started on a wild note, calmed down and then got a little wild at the end, the Green Bobcats outscored the Symmes Valley Vikings 12-10 Friday in the Division IV sectional finals.

Symmes Valley jumped out to a 3-0 lead to start the game with the help of two walks and a run-scoring single by Jeremy Hatfield.

But Green bounced back to score 10 runs in the bottom of the inning.

Odie Kelly walked, Randy Ratcliff was safe on an error, Brian Ramey walked and Brad Dehart had a two-run single. Wes Bailey doubled home two more runs and Cody Stapleton had an RBI double.

Andy Avery’s base hit scored Stapleton and Matt Clark and Kelly followed with hits. Ratcliff was safe on another error and Ramey singled home two more runs.

However, the Vikings rallied

to score six runs of their own in the second inning to get within 10-9.

Robbie Powell and Brice Sexton both walked and Kyle Meadows singled in a run. Cody Bland walked and Hatfield had a two-run single. Derek Carpenter walked and Powell was safe on an error to score two runs.

Neither team scored again until the sixth inning.

Kyle Meadows and Bland each singled and Jeremy Hatfield doubled home a run to tie the game at 10-10.

Green answered with the winning runs in the bottom of the inning.

Ramey was safe on an error, Dehart singled and Bailey gounded out as the runners moved up a base. Stapleton then hit a ground ball, but the throw to get the force out at third base was wild and both runners scored.

Green, 14-4, plays Tuesday at the University of Rio Grande in the district semifinals against the Leesburg-Whiteoak winner.

On Tuesday, the Vikings trailed New Boston 13-12 in the bottom of the seventh inning and won 14-13 on a two-out, two-run double by Alex Burnett.

Symmes Valley finishes 11-11 on the season.
