FRANKLIN FURANCE

— The offense was like Gumby and the defense like Pokey.

Playing their fifth game in seven days, the Green Lady Bobcats four-game winning streak came to a halt Thursday as the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings took a 56-44 Southern Ohio Conference win.

“We didn’t shoot well, so that might be attributed to rubbery legs. Defensively we were behind them. But that’s not an excuse. Symmes Valley played well,” Green coach Dale Royse said.

Symmes Valley coach Lisa Bryant was pleased with her team’s defense which limited Kortney Pfleger to nine points and Elista Hall to eight.

“Our goal was to come out and increase the intensity on defense and limit Hall and Pfleger to single digits from the field. We accomplished both,” Bryant said.

Rebecca Capper led Symmes Valley with 17 points to go with four rebounds and three assists. Megan Coomes had 12 points and 10 rebounds and Tiffany Bryant scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds.

Jessica Dyer had 13 points and 16 rebounds while Shay Richendollar added 12 points to lead Green (11-6, 8-5). Pfleger pulled down eight rebounds.

“Our girls stepped it up for all four quarters,” coach Bryant said. “I was proud of our effort on both sides. Capper had a good all-around game and Tiffany Bryant did a good job on Pfleger.”

Symmes Valley led 13-12 after the first quarter and 25-19 at the half.

Capper scored seven points in the third quarter as Symmes Valley extended its lead to 44-29.

“We just didn’t shoot the ball well. You’re shooting is not going to be on every night, so you have to rebound and play defense. We rebounded, but we didn’t get it done defensively.” Royse said.

On Wednesday, Jessica Dyer and Traci Elrod celebrated their final home game on Senior Night with a double-double. Each scored 10 points with Dyer getting 12 rebounds and Elrod 10.

“It was a great atmosphere and we had a chance to thank our two seniors for the job they’ve done,” Royse said.

The key for Green was holding Kaylee Helton to just 11 points. Helton had 26 points last week as Green won 42-41.

“It was the best four quarter we’ve played. We played well and we were consistent,” Royse said. “We did a much better job on the Helton girls.”

Hall led Green with 21 points and eight rebounds. Pfleger had 12 points and 10 rebounds while Shay Richendollar added 10 points.
