COAL GROVE — Yawn. Another win.
The Coal Grove Lady Hornets were sluggish, but they still managed to work their way to a 54-28 win over the River Valley Lady Raiders Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
“We came out flat and stood around the first part of the game,” Lady Hornets coach Nick Miller said. “We didn’t play bad, we just didn’t play with any emotion.”
The Lady Hornets should have more emotion Thursday as they travel to South Point in a battle for first place in the OVC. Coal Grove is 7-0 in the league and South Point 5-1.
Chelsea Markins scored 24 points to lead Coal Grove (12-2). Samantha Hall also was in double figures with 14 points.
Beth Payne scored nine points to lead River Valley (3-13, 1-7).
Markins had seven points in the first quarter to match the River Valley total as Coal Grove took a 14-7 lead. Payne had five points for the Raiders.
Markins came back with nine points in the second quarter as Coal Grove pulled away to a 28-14 halftime lead.
The Lady Hornets extended their lead to 40-22 after three quarters and Miller emptied his bench in the fourth quarter.
