Local police had a ball the first time — literally as well as figuratively — so they are
planning round two.
Members of the Fraternal Order of Police Local 75 are planning their second annual policeman’s ball. The ball will be at 7 p.m. Dec. 16 at the Knights of Columbus Hall on South Third Street.
“Last year we had 175 to 200 people,” said Pamela Neal Wagner, F.O.P. Local 75 president.
“We have already had people inquiring about tickets for this year. We will have limited tickets this year so people should contact us early to get tickets.”
Tickets will go on sale later this summer and will be available through any FOP member.
Wagner said happy hour and dinner will be from 7 to 9 p.m. The band Gypsy Rose will perform from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
“They were good last year, and we really appreciate them,” Wagner said. “They do a lot of volunteer work with the F.O.P.”
Dress will be semi-formal.
Proceeds from the event will go to various drug education programs and to fund the county’s two law enforcement canine units.
The Ironton Police Department has Ace, a German shepherd that joined the department last year.
The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office has Max, a Belgian malinois that joined the office in 2005 also.
Both dogs are frequently used and have been active in numerous arrests and drug-related automobile searches.
The FOP had regular policeman’s balls for many years, but discontinued the practice about 10 years ago.
