CHESAPEAKE — Urbana University opponents are going to be treated to a different kind of double play.

Chesapeake Panthers twin brothers Cody and Cory Methax had signed to play baseball at the Springfield-area college.

Blue Knight head coach Brian Harrison is happy his team will get a double dosage of talent from the same family.

“These guys are very athletic and are coming off a great senior season,” Harrison said. “They both have a knack for hitting the ball and they are great contact hitters.”

The 5-foot-10 Cody was a second baseman and pitcher for the Panthers last season while the 5-11 Cory played third base in helping Chesapeake to its first outright Ohio Valley Conference championship in 40 years.

“They work hard. I think they’ll do well in that league,” Panthers coach Joe Waugh said. “I think it will be a good fit for them.”

Offensively, Cody hit .458 and on the mound he fashioned a no-hitter to highlight his success.

Both players were named to the All-OVC first team and were selected to the baseball coaches association’s all-district squad.

“We’ve always wanted to play for the same college after high school,” Cory said.

With both players going to Urbana, the brothers will remain teammates once again.

“We’ve been playing on the same team since we were 5-years old,” Cody said.

Besides their success on the baseball field, they were two-year starters for the football team and earned all-conference and all-district honors.

Cody and Cory are the sons of Larry and Sharon Methax of Huntington, W.V. Both plan to major in education at Urbana.
