A Greenup County, Ky., woman accused of holding up the U.S. Bank at Third and Jones streets earlier this year could spend four years in prison for her misdeed.

may be eligible for judicial release after three years if she testifies truthfully against her accomplice, Willis Cochran and if she exhibits good behavior while she is incarcerated.

Carter appeared before Lawrence County Judge Richard Walton, who refused defense attorney David Reid Dillon’s request that Carter be released on a short furlough before being sent to prison.

“I know this is an unusual request,” Dillon said.

“I’m not going to do it,” Walton said. Asked if she had anything to say before being sentenced, Carter shook her head.

Carter actually pleaded guilty in May to her part in the hold up but her sentencing was postponed pending her testimony against Cochran, who was at that time still at large. Since then, the man who allegedly drove Carter’s getaway car was arrested in Greenup, Ky., and charged in connection with a bank robbery in Russell, Ky. Cochran is also wanted in connection with heists in Jackson and Scioto counties.

In other news, two men accused of burglary each pleaded guilty on bills of information to the charges against them Wednesday. John Murrell, 42, whose last known address was 4281 County Road 41 N, Pedro, and Richard Riffe, 19, of 851 Township Road 155 E, Pedro, each pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property. Walton sentenced each man to four years community controlled sanctions under intensive supervised probation, which includes a four-month stay in the Lawrence County Jail. They were each was given credit for time served in jail awaiting resolution of their cases.

They are accused of taking saws, drills and an assortment of other tools from a Lawrence County residence earlier this year.
