A plate of familiar items will be handed to Ironton City Council members when they meet this evening.

On the agenda is first reading of an ordinance that would authorize Mayor John Elam to execute a collective bargaining agreement between the city and American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees — or AFSCME — Local 771, which represents 45 municipal employees.

Council approved a resolution regarding the union at its last meeting two weeks ago, but state law requires such contracts to be approved by ordinance.

The agreement gives all AFSCME employees a $.50 per hour pay raise. The increase is retroactive to the beginning of the contract year, which began on Feb. 1. The contract ends Jan. 31, 2007.

Getting second reading are ordinances to purchase a new fire truck for the Ironton Fire Department, new cruisers for the Ironton Police Department and a contract with E.L. Robinson and associates for improvements to the Nixon Hill water tank.

Also on the agenda is first reading of a contract for supplemental services with E.L. Robinson and Associates.

The meeting will be at 6 p.m. in council chambers on the third floor of the Ironton City Center.
