To be on TV or not to be on TV, that is the question.

There has been some confusion as to whether the Ironton Fighting Tigers at Wheelersburg Pirates game Friday was going to be televised on Ohio News Network (ONN Channel 27 Time Warner).

Actually, the game is being considered a “marquee matchup” which will mean special highlights and possible interviews from the game.

ONN lists Delphos St. John’s at Worthington Kilbourne as its game on Friday. ONN has added a Saturday game this year and will begin this week with Cleveland Benedictine at Lakewood St. Edward.

Ironton has been on ONN in the past. The Fighting Tigers game at Portsmouth West was televised last season.

Top prospects

Ironton fans traveling to Chillicothe in week five will get to see one of the top players in the state according to Scouting Evaluation Association of California.

Cavaliers’ wide receiver Chris Givens is rated a three-star prospect. Givens is 6-foot-3, 195 pounds.

Another Southeastern Ohio player listed was Dante Jackson of Greenfield McClain. The 6-4, 215-pound Jackson is also a three-star prospect and a wide receiver and safety.

Something special

Former Ironton players Brandon Walker and Patrick Kouns are getting noticed quickly.

Walker, a preferred walk-on, and Kouns, a transfer from Charleston, are both permanent members of the Marshall scout special teams. A total of 15 players are listed to be on the team.

In Saturday’s Green/White scrimmage, Walker played the right outside linebacker and Kouns tight end for the White team which was comprised of scout team players, walk-ons and redshiirt players. The Green team was comprised of the first and second team.

The White team scored first and the Green had to score late to win 15-14.

Former Ironton running back Darius Lewis, who has been slowed by a shoulder injury, was limited to playing on special teams with the White squad.

Lewis was in and out of practices last week because of his injuryed shoulder. He is expected to be redshirted this season and retain four years of eligibility.
