Ironton golf coach Jeff Kerns might think he’s riding an elevator. Things go up and down quickly.

After a 197 team score on Monday, Ironton dropped to 171 on Wednesday and then back up to 185 on Thursday.

“We just need some consistency to go with improvement,” Kerns said. “Those are the things that you face with such a young, inexperienced team.”

One thing that has remained consistent is the play of Nathan Kerns and Seth Christian. Both scored well in each match.

Monday, Nathan Kerns took medalist honors with a 35 against East Carter, Ky., and Elliott County, Ky. Christian was next with a 39.

Kerns had a 36 and Christian a 38 Wednesday at the Oaks Country Club against Russell. Aaron Christian had his best outing of the season with a 46.

Thursday, Kerns was the medalist again with a 36 and Seth Christian had a 40 against Chesapeake. Kyle Rase shot a 39 to lead the Panthers.

At the Huntington Invitational last Saturday, five scores are counted instead of four as in regular matches.

Although Ironton had a 48 team score, Nathan Kerns fired a 77 and Christian a 79.

Ironton will host Chesapeake, South Point and West Union on Monday at the Ironton Country Club.
