ROCK HILL — If they could just put erasers on footballs.

Mistakes and missed chances proved too much to overcome as the Rock Hill Redmen fell 33-24 to the Tolsia (W.Va.) Rebels Friday in the season opener for both teams.

The Redmen missed their extra point attempts on all four touchdowns and had one touchdown on a punt return in the first quarter nullified due to a penalty.

“Mistakes killed us,” Rock Hill coach Todd Knipp said. “We had a lot of new faces and they had everyone back. And we still had a chance to win the game.”

Josh Moore, who scored all of Rock Hill’s touchdowns, got the Redmen in front 6-0 with a 2-yard run in the first quarter.

Tolsia came back to take a 7-6 lead when quarterback Derrick Robertson kept for a 1-yard touchdown run. Bill Evans kicked the conversion.

But Moore ran back the ensuing kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown and the Redmen were back in front 12-7.

The Rebels answered with a 1-yard touchdown run by Evans to go up 13-12.

Robertson passed 15 yards to Kenneth Muncy that pushed the Rebels lead to 19-12 just before the half.

Tolsia extended its lead to 26-12 on a 3-yard run by Brandon Stacy. Evans added the conversion kick.

Moore then electrified the home crowd with a 63-yard scoring jaunt and the Redmen were within 26-18.

Robertson had a 5-yard touchdown run to open the fourth quarter scoring. Evans’ kick upped the spread to 33-18.

Moore got his fourth touchdown on a 2-yard run to set the final score.

Moore finished the game with 111 yards on 15 carries. Quarterback Jarrod Casey, who had his punt return called back, added 68 yards on 11 attempts.

“At times we looked like a pretty good football team,” Knipp said.

Evans ran 33 times for 177 yards to lead the Rebels. Stacy had 67 yards on nine tries and Justin Copley 54 yards on 12 carries.
