GLENHAYES, W.Va. – Take away two of your top offensive weapons and defensive starters against the No. 8 Class AA team in West Virginia and it doesn’t sound good.

Well, it didn’t look good, either.

With starters Mike Stapleton and Terry Brown out due to injuries, the Chesapeake Panthers lost to the Tolsia Rebels 43-6 Friday.

“We were competitive for a while. But missing those two players hurt us. One is a corner and one is an outside backer and trying to replace them didn’t work well,” Davis said.

Tolsia running back B.J. Evans posted a career high with 313 yards rushing and scored three touchdowns to keep his team unbeaten at 4-0.

The school record for single-game rushing is 319 by Jim Pertee in a 1996 Class AA playoff win over Braxton County. Evans is just 4 yards shy of 1,000 on the season.

The Rebels rolled up 458 total yards including 421 on the ground.

Tolsia scored on each of its first three possessions including a nine-play, 56-yard scoring drive to start the game capped by Evan’s 14-yard run. He also kicked the conversion.

After a Chesapeake drive stalled at the Tolsia 30, Evans had a 1-yard scoring run and Darin Parsley hit Brandon Stacy with a 32-yard touchdown pass to push the lead to 21-0 with 6:41 left in the half.

The Panthers got on the scoreboard when Aaron Donohoe scored from 1-yard out on a fourth down quarterback sneak.

The play capped a 69-yard, 10-play march with 2:28 left in the half. A 59-yard pass to Kersten Harris was the key play in the drive.

Evans extended the lead to 28-6 with a 4-yard run to culminate a five-play, 91-yard scoring drive to begin the second half.

Justin Copley had a 27-yard scoring run early in the fourth quarter and the Tolsia backups tacked on the final TD.

Donohoe threw for 70 yards and Harris ran 12 times for 51 yards to lead the Panthers.
