Lady #8217;Cats win opener

FRANKLIN FURNACE — Running is helping the passing.

The Green Lady Bobcats running style of play helped produce 17 assists in a season-opening 58-16 win over the St. Joseph Female Flyers Wednesday.

“Last year we had very few assists, so I like having 17 assists. We’re trying to play more up-tempo and I think that will help us,” Green coach Dale Royse said.

Ashlee Runyon and Abbey Barrett had four assists each to lead Green in that department.

Elista Hall scored a game-high 16 points to pace the Lady Bobcats offense. Shay Richendollar and Adrianne Blankenship scored 10 points apiece.

“I was pretty pleased with the way we played. It should help give our young team some confidence,” Green coach Dale Royse said.

Katie Schwab and Michelle Staton scored 6 points each to lead St. Joseph who played without starting point guard Lindsey Dressel due to an illness.

The Lady Bobcats only led 10-7 after the first quarter, the exploded to outscore the Female Flyers 18-3 in the second quarter to lead 28-10 at the half.

Green plays at Portsmouth Clay Thursday in a Southern Ohio Conference game. The Female Flyers play at South Gallia next Thursday.
