PORTSMOUTH — Boards can hurt, especially if you don’t have any.

The Green Lady Bobcats had trouble rebounding in a 60-49 loss to the Portsmouth Clay Lady Panthers Thursday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

“We got hurt on the boards and we didn’t get much of our transition game going. If you don’t get any rebounds, it’s tough to get out and go,” Green coach Dale Royse said.

Green was led by Elista Hall with a game-high 22 points. Shay Richendollar had 13 points and seven rebounds.

Clay took a 13-9 lead after the first quarter and led 29-24 at the half.

But Green outscored Clay in the third quarter and even grabbed the lead before falling behind 42-39.

The game stayed close throughout the fourth quarter before Clay pulled away down the stretch.

“We changed up our defense and it was effective,” Royse said. “I can’t fault my girls. They gave a heck of an effort. The game was closer than the score. It was a 3-point game most of the way.”

Green hosts Eastern Monday in a league game.
