OAK HILL — It has been said that it doesn’t matter how you start but how you finish. The South Point Lady Pointers would argue different.

Falling behind early, the Lady Pointers were unable to recover as they dropped a tough 51-44 decision to the Oak Hill Lady Oaks Thursday.

Oak Hill jumped out to a 13-1 lead as Karla Moore, Karissa Adkins and Kaylin Marshall all hit 3-pointers before the Lady Pointers hit a basket.

“We gave them the first quarter, but after that we outplayed them,” Lady Pointers coach Dave Adams said.

“But we had so many shots in the first quarter that went down in the basket and came back out.”

Down 13-3 at the end of the quarter, South Point played the Lady Oaks even in the second quarter as Chelsea Damron and Vanessa Rogers combined for 9 points and it was 28-18 at the break.

South Point played most of the game without point guard T’Ann Mayo who picked up three fouls in the first half and was whistled for her fourth early in the second half.

Ericka Leighty and Tinesha Taylor scored 6 points each in the third quarter as South Point got within 38-34.

Leighty had 5 more points in the fourth quarter as South Point trailed by 5, but Jill Phillips hit a key 3-pointer to push the lead to 9 and the Lady Pointers were forced to foul as the Oaks held on.

Leighty had 11 points and Taylor 10 for the Lady Pointers (5-3). Sarah Lee and Taylor grabbed 8 rebounds each.

Karissa Adkins had 13 for the Lady Oaks (7-1).

PEDRO — OK, that’s enough of these games.

The Rock Hill Redwomen suffered through another cold-shooting night as they lost to the Northwest Lady Mohawks 41-28 Thursday.

“We had another one of those nights we couldn’t throw it in the ocean,” Rock Hill coach Matt Fulks said.

“We battled and played pretty good defense, but we just couldn’t score.”

The Redwomen (4-5) scored single digits in three of the four quarters. Bobbi Harper led Rock Hil with 8 points and Elisha Daniels had 6 points.

“Daniels is a battler under the boards and she’s been playing well off the boards,” Fulks said.

Rock Hill will now turn its focus on next Thursday’s game at South Point in a battle for first place in the Ohio Valley Conference.

“One thing about these girls, they’ll bounce back. They’ll play hard when we play South Point,” said Fulks.
