PEDRO — If you take away No. 1, watch out for the other numbers.

The Rock Hill Redwomen focused their defense on Coal Grove leading scorer Chelsea Markins.

But Samantha Hall and Brittany Harrison combined for 33 points to lead the Lady Hornets to a 55-32 Ohio Valley Conference win over Rock Hill Monday.

“We had some balanced scoring with Brittany Harrison stepping up, and with Sam and Chelsea . They played really tight on Chelsea and that left people open and we did a nice job getting the ball to the open man,” Lady Hornets coach Nick Miller said.

Hall scored a game-high 21 points and Harrison had 12. Markins still managed to score 12 points as Coal Grove (8-3, 4-1) moved to within one-half game of OVC leader South Point.

Brooke Long had 15 points to pace Rock Hill (4-7, 3-2).

“We thought we did a pretty good job on Markins, but Hall was just too much for us,” Rock Hill coach Matt Fulks said.

“We missed a lot of easy shots, but give Coal Grove the credit. They played well.”

Samantha Zornes scored 4 points to start the game as Coal Grove went on to take a 12-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Markins had 8 points and Harrison 7 as Coal Grove scored 16 points in the second quarter and took a 28-14 halftime lead.

Hall knocked down 10 points in the third quarter to help the Lady Hornets build a 44-22 cushion.
