Lady Vikings post key win over Western

WILLOW WOOD — Another one bites the dust.

Symmes Valley faced the second straight co-leader in the Southern Ohio Conference, and for the second straight time the Lady Vikings came away with a win as they stunned the Western Lady Indians 77-66 Saturday.

After beating Portsmouth Clay on Thursday, the Lady Vikings knocked Western into a second place tie with Clay behind New Boston. Symmes Valley is now 11-5 overall and 8-4 in the SOC. Western fell to 12-5 and 9-3.

“I can’t say enough about our kids,” Lady Vikings coach Lisa Bryant said. “We are on a 6-game winning streak. We are playing well right now and not at

a bad time either with the tournament coming up.”

Tiffany Bryant had a career-high 30 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead Symmes Valley. Emily Bowling got 24 points along with 11 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals.

Kayla Saunders had her best game of the season with 15 points, 5 assists and 3 steals. Haily Pelletier also had 15 rebounds and Natasha Pointer grabbed 6.

“Tiffany and Emily played well tonight and Kayla had one of her best all-around games. Haily Pelletier just keeps getting better each game. She doesn’t produce a lot of points, but she is all over the boards,” coach Bryant said.

Western was led by Kaylee Helton who scored a game-high 34 points. Sarah Stratman added 20 points for the Lady Indians.

Bryant’s 8 points in the first quarter staked Symmes Valley to an 18-13 lead while Helton had 6.

Bowling came back with 9 points in the second quarter and Bryant 8 to offset 12 by Helton and the Lady Vikings were up 35-26 at the break.

Each team had 18 points in the third quarter as Bowling scored 8 and Stratman hit three trifectas.

Saunders clinch the win as she converted 7 of 10 free throws and Bowling scored 10 points including a 3-pointer. Stratman scored 11 and Helton 10 to give Western a chance at a comeback.
