CHESAPEAKE — The Rock Hill Redmen like to imitate the start of the Indy 500. They like being the pace care.

The Redmen were able to set the pace and come away with a 53-29 win over the Chesapeake Panthers Friday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“We wanted to get the game going up and down,” Redmen coach Adam Simpson said. “They wanted a more controlled pace. We got the pace we wanted in the third quarter.”

Chesapeake (5-12, 1-7) kept the pace slow in the first quarter as each team scored just 6 points in the first quarter.

Nate Davenport scored 5 points and Andrew Stumbo 4 more in the second quarter as Rock Hill took a 20-14 lead at the half.

The pace changed in the third quarter as seven different players scored led by Stumbo with 11 points and Rock Hill outscored Chesapeake 23-5 to make it 43-19.

“We got the lead and we felt we had to keep the lead,” Simpson said.

Rock Hill went on a 9-0 run to start the fourth quarter to put the game away.

Stumbo led all scorers with 25 points and 12 rebounds. Davenport had 10 points and 7 rebounds as Rock Hill (11-5, 5-2) won its ninth straight.
