“We had to come out and challenge their shooters and we did a nice job of that,” Redmen coach Adam Simpson said. “We knew it would be a tough game with the way they can shoot the 3s.”

The Redmen were playing without starter Nathan Davenport who was attending an academic scholarship banquet in Dayton. Simpson said the team picked up the slack in his absence.

“We really didn’t change anything. We had the same game plan and handled their pressure. We ran our offense and got the shots we wanted. Our team is so diversified that we have guys who can step right in,” Simpson said.

Rock Hill’s balanced attack had Matt Matney and Mark DePriest with 14 points each and Aaron Butler scored 13. Stumbo also had 8 rebounds and DePriest pulled down 5 as Rock Hill (9-5) won its seventh straight.

Matney scored 5 points in the first quarter as Rock Hill took a 14-12 lead.

DePriest had 8 points and Matney 4 to offset 6 points by Shawn Smith and go up a 30-26 halftime edge.

The Redmen opened up a 17-point lead in the third quarter before Minford rallied to within 48-37 at the end of the quarter. Stumbo and Matney combined for 11 points.

Butler scored 7 of his points in the fourth quarter including 3 of 4 from the line as Rock Hill improved to 9-5 on the season.
