Bad 4th quarter proves costly for Redwomen

PEDRO — Just when the Rock Hill Redwomen appeared to have solved their problems, one area of woe returned.

Just a little late.

“We switched our second quarter to the fourth quarter,” Rock Hill coach Matt Fulks said referring to his team’s second quarter problems this season.

Instead of a bad second quarter, Rock Hill had only 2 points in the fourth quarter in a 51-36 loss to the Vinton County Lady Vikings Tuesday.

Rock Hill and unbeaten Vinton County were tied after three quarters, but the Redwomen slumped and were outscored 17-2 in the fourth quarter.

“For three quarters we did things well that we didn’t do last Saturday,” Fulks said. “We beat ourselves. We beat their press and then threw it away.

“We did what we had to do and that’s what it’s going to take for us to win ball games. The girls bounced back real well. They could have laid down but they didn’t.”

The game was tied 9-9 after the first quarter with Vinton County going up 23-22 at the break. Rock Hill then tied the game at the end of the third quarter 34-34.

“We got off some good shots and played good defense. We have things we can fix. We just ran out of gas,” Fulks said.

Anna Bridges scored 11 points for the Redwomen (0-3) who also got 9 points from Bobbi Harper.

Jessie Harkins had 20 points and 20 rebounds for Vinton County (4-0). Rebecca Puckett had 12.
