PROCTORVILLE — To error is human. To take advantage of it and score is the way of the Fairland Dragons.

Each team had three costly errors, but Fairland made the Gallipolis Blue Devils pay more for their mistakes as the Dragons won 6-5 Thursday in eight innings.

“Errors figured prominently in the outcome. We gave them some runs and they turned around and gave us some, so it kind of evened out,” Fairland coach Roger Snyder said.

The winning run was the product of two Gallipolis errors.

Spencer Baise was safe on a dropped fly ball for a two-base error. Zach Jordan put down a sacrifice bunt attempt down the first base line and the throw to first base sailed down the right field line allowing Baise to score.

Fairland took a 1-0 lead in Tyler Thackston walked, Adam Berry was safe on an error and Ethan Long grounded out to score pinch-runner Will Lively.

The Blue Devils got three runs in the third inning highlighted by a two-run double by Austin King and a Fairland error.

The Dragons made it 3-2 in the fourth inning. Thackston walked, Long doubled and Tyler Godby grounded out.

Gallipolis took a 5-2 lead in the top of the fifth inning thanks to a throwing error on a pickoff attempt and three walks.

But Fairland (3-0) rallied with three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game.

Baise singled, Zach Jordan was hit by a pitch, Hatfield reached on a bunt single to load the bases and Zach Matasich was hit by a pitch to force in a run.

An out later, Thackston walked for the third time to score Jordan. Berry then grounded out as Matasich came home with the tying run.

Nathan Burcham got the win in relief of Hatfield. He struck out four, walked three and did not allow a hit.
