Female Flyers roll past Hannan

St. Joseph Female Flyers head coach B.J. Hannon tries not to let things bother him.

But heading into Monday’s game against the Hannan (W.Va.) Lady Wildcats, Hannon couldn’t help but worry.

“I was concerned coming into this game. We only won by one point at their place,” St. Joseph coach B.J. Hannon said.

“But this was one of our best games of the season as far as handling the ball and we played pretty good defense. Charleigh Haas had a nice game. She posted up well inside.”

Haas, who finished with 13 points, scored 8 points in the first half as St. Joseph took an 18-6 lead. The Female Flyers held Hannan to just one point in the first quarter.

Lindsay Dressel scored 6 points in the third quarter as St. Joseph pulled away to a 29-11 lead.

Hannan’s Angie Jones scored 9 points in the fourth quarter on three trifectas, but Haas had 5 more points to stop any comeback ideas of the Lady Wildcats.

Hannon said the Female Flyers decided to dedicate the game to their lone senior, point guard Dressel who led all scorers with 14 points.

“Lindsay had a really nice game. We got everyone coming back but her and she’ll be hard to replace,” Hannon said.

Jones had 12 points for Hannan.

St. Joseph plays Beaver Eastern at 8 p.m. Monday in the Division IV sectional tournament at Athens High School.
