PORTSMOUTH — The extra work was worth it.

The South Point Pointers got a pair of runs in the eighth inning to beat the Portsmouth Trojans 4-2 Tuesday.

“We did a good job pulling together and (pitcher Anthony) Ross did a real nice job. He had pretty good control,” Pointers coach Marty Patrick said. “We moved some kids around and they earned some positions.”

Ross pitched seven strong innings before Beau Weed came on and got the win.

Portsmouth got a run in the first inning, but the Pointers tied the game with a run in the fourth inning when Weed was safe on an error and Anthony Ross singled.

Each team got a run in the sixth.

In the top of the inning the Pointers scored on doubled by Kyle Hughes and Tyler Smith.

In the decisive eighth inning, Smith doubled, Zach Jenkins walked and Chris Brown and Ross followed with RBI singles.

Ross was 3-5 while Hughes and Smith went 2-4 to lead a 10-hit attack

The Pointers host Portsmouth Notre Dame Thursday.
