Redwomen can’t overcome cold shooting

PEDRO – They make shoes for running and throwing and jumping. Do they make any for shooting?

The Rock Hill Redwomen would gladly buy a few pair of shooting shoes after Saturday’s 39-21 loss to the Jackson Ironwomen.

“We couldn’t throw it in the ocean if we were standing on the beach,” Rock Hill coach Matt Fulks said. “We got good looks. They weren’t bad shots. They just would not fall.”

Jackson, which upset Minford in its opener, found itself tied 7-7 with Rock Hill at the end of the first quarter.

But the Redwomen went stone cold in the – what else? – second quarter and failed to score as Jackson took a 16-7 halftime lead.

The Ironwomen then outscored the Redwomen 23-14 in the second half to improve to 2-0.

“We did some things better today as far as boxing out, but we just couldn’t put the ball in the basket. But give them credit. They were about to put the ball in the basket a few more times than us,” Fulks said.

Bobbi Harper scored 10 points to lead the Redwomen (0-2). Tara Fenwick scored 13 points to pace Jackson.

Rock Hill will host Vinton County Tuesday.
