WILLOW WOOD — Natasha Pointer knows how to maximize her time.

Battling Tonsilitis for the past three days, Pointer was used sparingly in Thursday’s Southern Ohio Conference game against the East Lady Tartans. But Pointer took advantage of her playing to help the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings beat East 53-36.

“We played her sparingly, but she came up big for us in the fourth quarter,” Lady Vikings coach Lisa Bryant said.

East led 13-11 at the end of the first quarter and both teams scored just 4 points in the second quarter and it was 17-15 at the break.

“Our kids started out slow for the second straight outing. We could not get our shots to fall in the first half and we had poor free throw shooting throughout the game,” Bryant said.

“However, my kids played well on the defensive end creating turnovers, but we could not cash in on the other end in the first half when we could get a steal.”

The Lady Vikings had only 11 turnovers and just 4 in the first half.

Emily Bowling hit a pair of 3-pointers as she scored 11 points in the third quarter as Symmes Valley rallied to take a 30-24 lead.

Pointer then came off the bench to score 6 points in the fourth quarter and point guard Kayla Saunders scored 5 points as the Lady Vikings blitzed East 23-12 to win going away.

Bowling finished with a game-high 22 points including three trifectas. Haily Pelletier grabbed 15 rebounds to go with 5 steals.

Tiffany Bryant had 9 points and 12 rebounds. Saunders added 9 points and 4 steals for the Lady Vikings (8-5, 6-4).

Ciara Wright led East (1-12, 0-10) with 13 points.
