BYESVILLE — Mandi Boykin is no stranger to athletic success. She’s also very familiar with the state track meet.

Boykin reached the Division II state track meet for the fourth straight year in the 100-meter dash and also qualified in the 200 meters and a relay.

Boykin won the 100 meters at 12.23 seconds and the 200 with a stadium record 25.43 time in Saturday’s Div. II regional meet at Meadowbrook High School.

She has third, fourth, and fifth place finishes in her three previous state meet 100-meter dash races.

The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers 4×100 meter relay team of Cinnamon Fletcher, Michelle Pancake, Rachel Walker and Boykin finished third to qualify for the state meet. The Lady Tigers quartet ran a 50.99 time.

“There were some really fast times today,” said Ironton girls’ coach Tim Thomas.

Gallipolis won the race with a stadium record 49.93 time. Ridgewood was second at 50.21.

Ironton’s Marc Carter, who was second in the state meet last season in the 800 meters, won the regional meet in a photo finish.

Carter, who also won the meet as a sophomore, had a 1:56.76 clocking and won at the finish line just ahead of Tyler Cantley of Warren who ran 1:56.79.

The Fighting Tigers John Paul Pemberton also came away with a regional title in the shot put by throwing 54-7.

South Point’s Chris Smith got his second pass to the state meet as he finished second in the shot put (53-8). He was fourth in the discus on Thursday to qualify in that event.

The Pointers Quay Logan, who won the long jump Thursday, was second in the high jump. He was one of three jumpers to clear 6-4 but was second with more misses.

In the girls’ long jump, South Point’s Sarah Lee was third (17-2.25) and returns to the state meet for the first time since her freshman year. Teammate Ericka Leighty was fifth at 16-11.50.

Fairland’s Chuckie Wentz was third in the 3200-meter run with a 10:06.34 time to get a trip to the state meet. He will be joined by teammates Matt Bloomfield, Chris Jackson, Travis Jones, and Chad Gibson who ran a 3:28.73 to finish third in the 4×400 relay.

Rock Hill’s Wes Pierson (15.67) and Fairland’s Aaron Ward (15.77) finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 110-meter hurdles.

South Point’s 4×200 relay team of Zach Norris, Josh Jones, Stephen Fairchild, and Drew Lynd ran a 1:33.73 to finish sixth.

Ironton freshman Carie Rister did not place in the pole vault but set a school record by clearing 8-feet. Lukas Morris went 5-10 in the high jump despite a nagging leg injury.

In the Division III regional finals at Pickerington North High School, Coal Grove senior Tyler Branch made it 2-for-2 as he won the shot put event.

Branch qualified on Wednesday for the state meet in the discus with a fourth place finish.

Branch won the shot put with a heave of 55-2. Aaron Crabtree of Lucasville Valley was second at 52-3.25. Both will join the Ohio State track team next fall.

The only other local track athletes to place in the regional meet Friday were the Chesapeake 4×400 relay team and the Lady Panthers’ Laura Fields.

Adam Slone, Kenny Morgan, Jon Greene and Tyler Cravens finished sixth in the 4×400 with a 3:31.89 clocking.

Fields was eighth in the 200-meter dash with a 7.82 time.
