COLUMBUS — Running on a big stage, Mandi Boykin grabbed the spotlight.

Boykin, a senior who has signed with University of Cincinnati, won two events and was part of a relay team to place fourth at the Jesse Owens Track & Field Classic Saturday at Ohio State University.

Boykin ran a 12.7 into a strong headwind to take first place in the 100-meter dash. Shanay Portis of Springfield South was second at 12.79 seconds.

Boykin had a 25.73 clocking to win the 200-meter dash over Brittany Hall of Harrison (26.34).

Ironton’s 4×100 relay team of Cinnamon Fletcher, Michelle Pancake, Rachel Walker and Boykin was fourth with a 51.41 time.

Walker was eighth in the discus with a toss of 93-11, Fletcher placed seventh in the 100-meter hurdles (18.02), and Carie Rister was ninth in the 400 (1:06.11).

Columbus Bishop Hartley ran a 50.88 to win the 4×100.

Coal Grove senior thrower Tyler Branch enjoyed a big day as he set a personal record in the shot put with a heave of 58-2.5 to win the event over Chris Littlejohn of Harrison who threw 54-10.5.

Ironton’s John Paul Pemberton threw 50-0.75 to place fourth and Coal Grove’s Adam Bare was ninth at 49-3.75.

Branch was third in the discus with a toss of 159-3. Randy Rue of Unioto won the event at 161-9.

The Hornets Shayne Willis threw 138-5 to place 11th in the 21-man field.

Also giving a stellar performance was Ironton junior middle distance runner Marc Carter who ran a 1:57.86 to win the 800 meters. The meet record was 1:55.17.

In the boys long jump, Ironton’s Lukas Morris leaped 19-feet to take seventh place. Gray Horn of Goshen won with a leap of 21-feet.

Morris also placed in the high jump as he placed fourth with a jump of 6-2. Steve Minnick of Cincinnati Hills Christian went 6-6

to win.

Carter, Morris, Tym Vandermosten and Justin Payne teamed up on the 4×400 relay and ran a 3:50.30 to take eighth. Payne was seventh (5:22.51) in the 1600 meters.

Ironton’s Jon Monnig was eighth in the pole vault. He cleared 11-6 and then left the competition due to a thigh injury.

Heath Nickles of Columbus Grove cleared 15-feet to win.

Fairland’s 4×800 relay team of Chuckie Wentz, Chad Gibson, Matt Bloomfield and Eddie Adkins was second at 8:31.33. Reynoldsburg won the event with an 8:05.50 clocking.

Adkins was sixth in the 1600 with a 5:16.68 time. Wentz was 11th in the 3200 (10:38.15).

Fairland’s 4×400 relay team placed sixth with a 3:34.91 clocking.

The Dragons Kyle Kincaid cleared 11-feet in the pole vault.
