LUCASVILLE — Show some manners. Everybody needs to wait their turn.

During their tournament run, different players have taken their turn stepping up and helping Fairland win. Shelby Fuller took her turn Saturday with a run as the Lady Dragons slipped past the Unioto Lady Shermans 3-2 in the Division III district championship.

“Some of the girls will get down because they haven’t done what they’re used to doing during the regular season,” said Fairland coach Leroy Baise.

“We told the girls not to worry. At any time, someone will step up and help us win. Today, it was Shelby Fuller who did.”

Fuller tripled to start the inning the bottom of the seventh inning and the scored tied at 2-2.

Fuller was forced to stay at third base when the next batter grounded out back to the pitcher.

Sara Simms put down a bunt and Unioto pitcher Maria Murray threw to first base for the out, but Fuller was able to beat the return throw to home plate and scored the winning run.

“Our girls needed that. They’ve played well all year,” said Baise.

Fairland had taken a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Megan Brooks got a base hit but Simms hit into a fielder’s choice. Mackenzie Rucker tripled to drive in Simms.

Kirstin Midkiff walked and Jordan Fulks reached on an error as Rucker scored.

The score didn’t change until Adena got two runs in the sixth inning.

Chloe Cottrell tripled to open the inning and Maria Madden put down a suicide squeeze bunt as the run scored.

Britney Neff was safe on an error and Jessie Hart’s triple scored Neff.

Auxier got the win as she allowed five hits, struck out seven and walked one. Only one of the two runs was earned.

Fairland (18-9) will play Richwood North Union (23-3) at 5 p.m. Thursday in the Division III regional semifinals at Lancaster High School. The other regional game has Wheelersburg playing Bloom-Carroll on Wednesday with the finals set for noon on Saturday.
