Flyers bounce back with rout of Rebels

Now, that’s more like it.

After a disappointing outing on Monday, the St. Joseph Flyers bounced back to beat the Tolsia (W.Va.) Rebels 12-5 Tuesday.

“It was good to come out and play better than we did last night (Monday). Everyone hit the ball hard throughout the lineup. Even our outs were hit hard,” said Flyers coach Greg Bryant.

St. Joseph (10-2) pounded out 17 hits with Cory Lewis going 4-4 with a home run and Chad Harvey 3-4 and a home run.

Tre Stambaugh was 2-3, Jerrod Laber 2-4 and Pat Gagai 2-5.

Ryan Waginger got the win with five solid innings. He struck out six, walked one and only one of the runs he allowed was earned.

The Flyers didn’t waste any time as they scored three runs in the first inning where Lewis cranked a three-run homer after singles by Gagai and Laber.

The Flyers got five runs in the second inning.

Chad Harvey and Tre Stambaugh and Ryan Schwab all singled for a run. Jerrod Laber delivered two-run singled. Laber stole second and Blackburn doubled home the run. Lewis followed with an RBI single.

The lead went to 10-0 in the third inning.

Waginger singled, courtesy runner Joey Basedow moved up when Harvey singled and Michael Basedow walked to load the bases. Stambaugh then came trough with a two-run single.

After Tolsia scored three runs in the fourth inning, the Flyers got two back in the sixth when Lewis singled and Harvey drilled a two-run homer

St. Joseph (10-2) hosts Portsmouth East Thursday.
