It might not make Ripley’s Believe It Or Not, but it certainly makes the Greg Bryant non-believer’s list.

The St. Joseph Flyers committed 10 errors — yes, 10 — Thursday against the East Tartans.

And won.

“I’ve never heard of a team that made 10 errors and won,” said Bryant.

“It was one of the craziest games I’ve ever seen. If you would have told me we would make 10 errors and lost, I’d have thought you didn’t know anything about baseball.”

One thing that helped the Flyers was the fact East made five errors of its own, but none in the sixth inning winning rally.

Four errors and a hit batsman enabled East to take a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

An error and three hits including an RBI double by David Blair upped the lead to 5-0 in the second inning.

The Flyers then tied the game in the third inning.

With one out, Ryan Schwab singled, stole second and came home on a hit by Pat Gagai.

Jerrod Laber singled, a wild pitch moved the runners up a base, and Caleb Blackburn reached on an error as a run scored. Cory Lewis followed with an RBI single.

Ryan Waginger and Chad Harvey both reached on errors as two runs scored.

East took a 6-5 lead in the fifth when Chad Luther was safe on an error, Paul Burchett walked and Gary Truman was safe on a fielder’s choice.

St. Joseph then mounted the game-winning rally in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Schwab singled and stole second to start the inning, Gagai put down a sacrifice bunt, and Laber singled to tie the game.

Laber went to second on a wild pitch and Lewis got a clutch two-out single to score Laber with the winning run.

“We have to quit digging ourselves a hole. We’re making way too many errors,” said Bryant.

Lewis was 3-3, Laber 3-4 and Schwab 2-4 as St. Joseph banged out 10 hits. Ryan Waginger got the win in relief.

St. Joseph (11-2) visits Harvest Christian Saturday for a doubleheader.
