Gallipolis slips past Fairland

GALLIPOLIS — Close games seem to be the routine when the Fairland Dragons meet the Gallipolis Blue Devils.

Fairland won 6-5 in an earlier meeting but Gallipolis returned the favor with an 11-10 slugfest win Tuesday.

Gallipolis broke a 10-10 tie with a run in the sixth inning when Austin King walked, stole second, took third on a groundout and came home on a hit by Cody Noble.

The Blue Devils took a 7-2 lead after three innings, but Fairland erupted for 7 runs in the fourth inning go in front 9-7.

In the bottom of the inning, Gallipolis scored three runs to regain the lead at 10-9. But Fairland tied the game with a run in the fifth inning.

Fairland (5-1) outhit the Blue Devils 16-11. Chris Barnett was 2-for-4 with three runs batted in while Tyler Thackston, Adam Berry and Mike Zundel were 203 with a RBI.

The Dragons play at Chesapeake Wednesday.

Gallipolis (4-2) was led by Noble who was 4-4.
