Hatfield, SV beat Green; South Point routs Tolsia

FRANKLIN FURNACE — Jeremy Hatfield was on top, and that’s where he put the Symmes Valley Vikings.

Hatfield struck out 13 and walked four in tossing a four-hitter as the Vikings beat the Green Bobcats 7-4 Tuesday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

“Hatfield was on top of his game. He was throwing hard and his curveball was breaking,” said Vikings coach John Patterson.

Brock Russell got the loss. He struck out nine and walked seven.

The Vikings got two runs in the first inning on bases loaded walked to Robbie Powell and Ethan Wilson.

The lead went to 3-0 in the second inning Gage Patterson singled, moved up

on a passed ball and scored on a hit by Powell.

Green got a run back in the third inning. Matt Clarke reached on an error, Randy Ratcliff walked and Cody Stapleton singled.

But the Vikings answered in the fourth when Brandon Bowling walked, Patterson doubled and Brice Sexton singled.

The Bobcats cut the deficit to 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth.

Clarke reached second base on an error to start the rally. Ratcliff was safe on a fielder’s choice and Ian Kelley had a two-run single.

But the Vikings built a 7-3 lead with three runs in the sixth.

J.J. Huff was hit by a pitch, went to second on a passed ball and scored on a double by Patterson. Powell had an RBI singled and Sexton followed with a run-scoring double.

The Bobcats got a run in the bottom of the seventh on a single by Ratcliff and Stapleton’s double.

Patterson was 3-3 while Powell went 2-3 and Sexton 2-4. Stapleton was 2-4 for Green.

Symmes Valley (5-8, 4-4) visits East Wednesday in a league game.

South Point 23, Tolsia 2

GLENHAYES, W.Va. — The South Point Pointers had the bats were making a lot of noise while pitcher Beau Weed kept the Tolsia Rebel bats silent.

Weed threw a two-hitter and the Pointers banged out 21 hits en route to a 23-2 rout of Tolsia Tuesday.

The Pointers, now 8-0, were led by Anthony Ross and Chris Brown who each went 4-for-4. Weed was 3-4 while Heath Bridges and Zach Jenkins were 2-2.

South Point had five extra base hits with Ross and Jenkins getting triples and Chase McWhorter, Tyler Smith and Brown getting doubles.

South Point is at Coal Grove Wednesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
