If the South Point Lady Pointers believe in astrology, the stars were certainly aligned Monday.

Everything was working just right for the Lady Pointers as they opened Division III sectional tournament play with a 26-0 win over the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers.

“It seemed like each of (South Point’s players) had the best game of their lives. All our hitting, pitching, and fielding came together perfectly and we came up with some great plays,” said Lady Pointers’ assistant coach Tara Layne.

Hannah Huron allowed only three hits and did not walk a batter to pick up the win.

“Hannah did an amazing job. All of her pitches were working great for her tonight,” Layne said. “Ironton put the bat on the ball, but we shut them down with effective pitching and solid defense.”

South Point banged out 27 hits with Huron going 4-5 with six runs batted in, Ericka Leighty 5-6 with four RBI and three stolen bases, and Emily Mannon 4-6 with five runs batted in.

Felesha Dickess was 4-5, Susan Christian 2-2 and Chelsi Plants 2-3.

“Our team definitely feeds off each other. When a couple of them start to do well, it just rippled down the lineup and spreads like wild fire,” Layne said.

Edi Taylor, Nikki Harbolt and Emily Lilly were all 1-2 for Ironton.

South Point plays at Wellston Friday in the sectional finals. Wellston topped Oak Hill 11-1.
