Lady Tigers get 2 wins over Trojans

The Ironton Lady Tigers like batting against the Portsmouth Lady Trojans.

In two games last week, Ironton belted 19 hits in a 20-6 road win and followed that with 21 hits in a 21-2 romp at home.

In a game at Portsmouth, Edi Taylor went 4-4 with two doubles and a triple to lead the onslaught. Nikki Harbolt ws 2-3 with a triple, Emily Lilly and Vicky Chenault were 3-4, Jessica Brown 2-3 with a double, Brea Tackett 2-3 and Janie Morris 2-4.

Kylie Summers got the win with a six-hitter. She fanned two and walked five.

“We hit the ball well, we were aggressive on the bases and got another win,” said Ironton assistant coach Jim Dyer.

“However, we got sloppy in the third (inning). We lost sight of our assignments, threw the ball around too much.”

The game was tied 1-1 after two innings when Ironton exploded for 12 runs. The key blows in the uprising were two doubles by Taylor, a triple by Harbolt, two singles by Chenault and a double and single by Brown.

Everybody was getting in on the action.

Ironton’s backups got playing time and produced as the Lady Tigers got 21 hits in a 21-2 rout of the Portsmouth Lady Trojans.

“We were able to use some of our subs tonight. It was great to see them attack the ball, too,” said Ironton coach Missy Fields.

Kelsey Bronson were 4-4 to lead the hit parade for Ironton. Janie Morris was 3-3, Edi Taylor and Emily Lilly were 3-4 each, Vicky Chenault 2-3 and Grace Seward 1-1.

Ironton started the game with two runs in the first inning on a hit by Taylor who then stole second base and scored on a hit by Bronson. After Bronson stole second, Lilly got an RBI single.

The Lady Tigers scored two more runs in the second inning, five in the third inning, and blew the game open with seven runs in the fourth inning thanks to hits by Taylor, Bronson, Harbolt and Morris.

Bronson, Lilly, Morris, Tackett, Chenault and Seward all had hits in a five-run fifth inning.

Sara Jones notched the win with a five-hitter. She struck out five and walked three.
