AID — So it’s only May, but it looks like this Corn is already in season.

Erica Corn threw a three-hitter and went 4-for-4 at the plate as the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings beat the Eastern Lady Eagles 7-3 Saturday to win the Division IV sectional title.

“Erica threw the ball well. We played good defense. We had only one error,” said Lady Vikings coach Jeff “Odie” Estep.

“And Corn had a heck of a game at the plate, but everyone hit well. Every girl in the lineup had a hit.”

Corn had a no-hitter until the sixth inning when Eastern got all three of its hits. She struck out four and walked two. Only one run was earned.

The Lady Vikings got the game’s first run in the second inning.

Emily Bowling and Kathryn Myers walked, a wild pitch moved the runners up and Courtney Nelson hit a sacrifice fly.

The Lady Vikings pushed across four more runs in the fifth inning to lead 5-0.

Corn led off with a base hit, Julie Carter hit into a fielder’s choice, Chelsea Wall singled and Bowling cranked a three-run homer to center.

Natasha Pointer then singled, moved up on a wild pitch and Myers and Nelson had back-to-back singles.

Eastern scored all its runs in the top of the sixth, but the Vikings scored two in the bottom of the inning.

Justice and Corn doubled to start the inning to get a run. A wild pitch moved Corn up and Julie Carter hit a sacrifice fly.

Symmes Valley (12-11) visits Raceland, Ky., Tuesday and plays in the district semifinals at 6 p.m. Thursday at Minford.
