PORTSMOUTH — Beating the Portsmouth Clay Lady Panthers was as easy as 1, 2, 3.

Coach Lisa Bryant said the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings did three important things as they knocked off the previously unbeaten Lady Panthers 63-60 Thursday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

“We played the most complete game we’ve played to date,” Bryant said. “We told them before the game to stay out of foul trouble, be patient on offense and decrease our turnovers. We did all three.”

Symmes Valley (4-2, 3-2) committed just 10 turnovers as they dealt Clay its first loss.

Tiffany Bryant had 23 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Lady Vikings. Emily Bowling scored 16 points to go with 5 rebounds and Kayla Saunders had 13 points and 5 assists.

Coach Bryant praised everyone for their effort.

“They did everything I asked them to do and (Tiffany) Bryant and Bowling really stepped it up. That’s a huge win for our team,” coach Bryant said.

Clay took a 15-14 first quarter lead despite Saunders knocking down a pair of 3-pointers for Symmes Valley.

Tiffany Bryant had 10 points in the second quarter as Symmes Valley came back to take a 31-26 lead.

Clay took its final lead at 40-38 early in the third quarter, but Bryant had 7 points and Bowling 5 in the third quarter as the Vikings went in front 44-42

Saunders sank 7 of 10 at the foul line in the fourth quarter to secure the win.
