SOUTH POINT — J&H Erectors of Portsmouth has been awarded the bid to build a third spec building at The Point industrial park.

The estimated completion date is late this year or early 2008. It will be built on a parcel of land off Collins Avenue near the U.S. 52 entrance to the park.

Dr. Bill Dingus, executive director of the Lawrence Economic Development Corporation, said the new building will have a total of 32,000 square feet. But unlike the other buildings, it will be divided to accommodate more than one occupant.

“It will be broken into four areas (within the building) with four different entry points in front,” he said.

This would make this facility more attractive to light industry, unlike the first two spec buildings that were designed and constructed for heavy industry.

The building is being paid for by a $500,000 Ohio Department of Development grant and a $500,000 ODD loan.

The first two spec buildings at the industrial park are occupied. Engines, Inc., of Barboursville, W.Va., expanded two years ago and moved some of its operations to the South Point area after it acquired the first spec building near the County Road 1 park entrance in 2005.

The company later acquired the second building nearby.
