SOUTH POINT — Anthony Ross took care of the pitching, his teammates took care of the defense, and the South Point Pointers took care of the Nelsonville-York Buckeyes.

Ross fired a four-hitter and the Pointers did not commit an error as they routed the Buckeyes 11-1 in six innings Tuesday in the Division III sectional tournament.

“Ross threw a pretty good game. We got out to a lead and played good defense and our seniors did a nice job again,” said Pointers coach Marty Patrick.

Ross struck out three and walked three to help the Pointers advance to Friday’s sectional final. South Point will host Wellston at 5 p.m. The Golden Rockets edged Oak Hill 6-5 in nine innings.

The Pointers got the scoring going with four runs in the first inning.

Chris Brown reached on an error, Beau Weed and Trenton Moore were hit by pitches and Chase McWhorter belted a three-run triple.

McWhorter scored on a passed ball.

The lead went to 6-0 in the second inning.

Heath Bridges got a base hit, Brown was safe on a fielder’s choice, Weed walked, and Ross hit a sacrifice fly. Moore’s base hit drove in the second run.

Kyle Hughes walked, Jacob Seagraves got a base hit and Bridges delivered a two-run double to make it 8-0 in the third inning.

A run scored in the fourth when McWhorter doubled and Steve McClure singled.

The Buckeyes got their only run in the top of the fifth on singles by Kyle Thomas, Tyler Wend and Nick Hunter.

But the Pointers answered in the bottom of the inning with a run as Zach Jenkins singled, moved up on an error, stole third base, and scored on a wild pitch.

South Point ended the game in the sixth inning when Ross singled, took second base on a wild pitch, stole third and came home on a wild pitch.

Bridges was 2-2 and McWhorter 2-3 with three RBI to lead South Point (18-1).
