Pointers outscore Redmen

PEDRO — In this slugfest, the South Point Pointers hit a little harder.

The Pointers banged out 20 hits en route to a 13-5 win over the Rock Hill Redmen Wednesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Rock Hill went up 1-0 in the top of the first inning when Drew Kuehne singled, stole second and came home on an error.

But South Point came back to score four runs in each of the next two innings.

Tyler Smith doubled and Kyle Hughes singled him home to start the second inning. Chris Brown walked and both runners scored on a double by Beau Weed. Chase McWhorter then singled home the fourth run.

The Redmen got a run back in the bottom of the inning when Drew Kuehne walked, stole second and Josh Guy singled.

In the third, Hughes doubled and Heath Bridges had an RBI single. Brown singled and Weed had a two-run double. McWhorter then had a run-scoring single to cap the rally.

The Pointers lead went to 11-2 in the top of the fourth.

Hughes walked and Brown tripled for a run. Weed singled in Brown and Anthony Ross and Moore singled for the third run.

Rock Hill answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame.

Zach Zornes singled, moved up error and then Mark DePriest and Drew Kuehne had back-to-back RBI doubles.

The Redmen got within 11-5 in the fifth on a double by Seth Kuehne, walks to J.C. Murnahan and Carl Blankenship, and a wild pitch.

The Pointers capped the scoring with two runs in the sixth inning.

Weed walked, Ross singled and Trenton Moore was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Jacob Seagraves and Smith walked to force in runs.

Weed was 4-5 to lead the South Point offense. Hughes went 3-4, Moore 2-2, Ross and Brown 3-5, Smith 2-4 and McWhorter 2-5.

Seth Kuehne was 3-4, Drew Kuehne 2-2 and Zornes 2-4 as Rock Hill collected 11 hits.

South Point is now 4-0 and 2-0 in the OVC. Pointers play Fairland Friday in a showdown for first place in the league.

Rock Hill (2-1, 0-1) hosts Fairland Thursday and visits River Valley Friday.
