Gov. Ted Strickland is scheduled to visit Ironton Friday as part of a statewide tour to discuss the passed budget bill.

Strick-land has stops scheduled in Franklin, Lucas and Cuyahoga counties today and he will visit Lawrence, Mahoning, Hamilton and Montgomery counties Friday.

Strickland will be at the Park Avenue Apartments, located at 202 Park Ave., in the Senior Activity Center on the second floor at 12:15 p.m.

Local senators called the budget bill a bi-partisan effort.

“The final version of the budget represents a combined effort of the governor, house and senate. It provides important property tax relief for seniors, increased health care access and choice for Ohio’s children and senior citizens and puts measures in place to spend taxpayer money more efficiently,” said Sen. John A. Carey Jr. (R-Wellston), chairman of the Senate Finance and Financial Institutions Committee and a member of the budget Conference Committee. “In addition, HB 119 provides a record amount of funding for schools and makes groundbreaking advances in higher education. This is a bill that will move Ohioans forward and give them more of an opportunity to live full and prosperous lives.”

Sen. Tom Niehaus (R-New Richmond) is also a member of the Senate Finance and Financial Institutions Committee and the budget Conference Committee.

“The state budget bill includes many important provisions that create opportunities for Ohio residents,” he said. “HB 119 continues to implement sweeping tax reforms that will cut taxes for Ohio families and businesses by more than $2 billion, along with the two-year freeze on tuition increases at all Ohio two- and four-year state institutions. These are just two of the important investments being made to further the state’s economic redevelopment.”

After being approved by both the house and the senate, HB 119 will now be sent to Strickland for his signature. He must sign the bill by June 30.
