AID — It’s nice to be at home and on a dry field.

The Symmes Valley Vikings began a game at Western last week that went four innings in the rain and mud before being suspended and the Indians leading 12-9.

The game was completed Friday with Western winning 12-10, but the Vikings came back to win the nightcap on their home field 5-1.

“We had a lot of errors. It was rainy and the field was muddy and they scored nine runs. It was pretty sloppy,” Vikings coach John Patterson said.

Western went up 1-0 in the first game only to have the Vikings score six in the second inning.

Robbie Powell and Ethan Wilson singled for a run. Brice Sexton was safe on an error, Brandon Bowling walked and Jeremy Hatfield had a two-run double.

After a

wild pitch, Michael Humphrey hit a sacrifice fly. Chris Tibbs and J.J. Huff walked and Bowling was safe on an error. Two more runs scored on passed balls.

Western used walks and errors to help scored eight runs in the bottom of the inning and it was 9-6.

In the top of the third inning, Kirt Shipley walked and Powell and Brice Sexton singled for two runs and an error scored the third run as the Vikings tied the game.

But Western scored twice in the fourth and one more in the sixth to get the win.

In the second game the Vikings won 5-1 as Powell pitched a four-hitter and struck out 10.

The Vikings took a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Powell singled and Wilson reached on an error. Hatfield put down a bunt for a hit as Powell scored. Wilson took third base on the play and came home on a bunt by Cody Bland.

Western got a run in the top of the third only to have the Vikings answer with two in their half of the inning.

Wilson reached on an error, Sexton singled and Wilson came home on a wild pitch. Sexton went to third on another wild pitch and Bland hit a sacrifice fly.

The Vikings got an insurance run in the sixth when Hatfield doubled, Bland sacrificed him to third base and Shipley reached on an errors as the run scored.

Symmes Valley (4-8, 3-4) visits Green Monday.
