A new queen took the reigns on Monday at the Lawrence County Fair — 16-year-old Heather Ridenour of Chesapeake.

She was competing against three other teens for the title. This was the first time she competed for the title.

“I’m so excited,” Ridenour said. “I am really surprised, I had tough competition.”

The VFW Post 6878, of Proctorville opened the evening ceremony.

Last year’s fair queen, Meghan Herrell, 17, from Symmes Valley High School, crowned the new queen.

“You have a lot of duties during fair week,” Herrell said. “You have to stay in there and be present and hand out different awards. It’s a lot of fun though. You get to be there and be more involved. You never really get to know what goes on behind the scenes until you’re there and you’re a part of it. You really appreciate how much work goes into all the shows.”

Mallory Shug, of Coal Grove, was first runner up and Amanda McArthur, of Symmes Valley High School, was second runner up.

Chelsey Keathley, of Symmes Valley High School, was crowned the new princess. It was her second year to compete.

Shelby Belleville was second runner up and Samantha Boothe was first runner up.
