Chesapeake businessman, James L. Hamilton, 72, was buried today with women attending the funeral in brightly colored dresses and big hats, his final request. He died on Sunday at St. Mary’s Medical Center.

Hamilton, retired owner and operator of Hamilton Chevrolet in Proctorville, was active in the community, a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Rotary Club of Huntington, Gypsy Club, City Club, Big Green and a staunch supporter of Marshall Athletics.

He attended Gallipolis schools and Ohio State University where he played football. Hamilton was a U.S. Army veteran. His joy in life was his orchard, his sailboat and his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Jean A. Hamilton; two sons Edmund A. Marshall and his wife, Renee, of Proctorville, and Robert G. Marshall and his wife, Sandra, of Huntington; one daughter, Sarah M. Zimmerman and her husband, Steven, of Pawleys Island, S.C.; grandchildren, Kathryn, Alexandria and Emalee Marshall of Proctorville, and Virginia, Kristen and William Marshall, of Huntington; one brother, Daniel Hamilton and his wife, Gayle of Gallipolis; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were at Trinity Episcopal Church by The Very Rev’d. R. Kevin Kelly and Rev. Robert L. Thomas.
