Local golfing trio win TSJGC top awards

It was the Tri-State Junior Golf Circuit, but one state seemed to dominate.

Ohio.

All three Player of the Year awards were won by Ohio players and a fourth finished as a runner-up.

The three winners were Ironton’s Nathan Kerns, Proctorville’s Brennan Anderson, and Coal Grove’s Brent Morgan.

Kerns, who won the 13-15 age division top award last year, was the 16-18 age division Player of the Year.

Kerns won five of the six tournaments he played, finishing second in the other event. He had 145 total points and his average stroke for 18 holes was 71.7.

The runner-up was from Ohio, too, as Corey Lawhun of South Webster posted a 70-point total.

Anderson won the 13-15 age division as he had two first place finishes, one second and one third among his totals as he racked up 97.5 points.

The runner-up was Tyler Clay of Barboursville, W.Va., with 77.5 points.

Morgan was the 10-12 age top player as he posted an 82.5 point total by winning two tournament.

The runner-up was Nick Blankenship of Ashland, Ky., with 77.5 points.

Kerns, a junior at Ironton, is the son of Jeff and Heather Kerns. Anderson, an eighth-grader at Fairland, is the son of Mark and Jamie Andeson. Morgan, a fifth-grader at Deering, is the son of Danny and Christy Morgan.
