GLOUSTER — In baseball, you get three strikes before you’re out. In football, you get three downs before you punt.

The Trimble Tomcats made use of all their downs as they blanked the Symmes Valley Vikings 47-0 Friday.

Trimble’s first team offense managed just 14 yards rushing but threw for 229 yards in order to beat the Vikings.

“You can’t hit what you can’t catch,” said Vikings coach Rusty Webb. “We stuffed the run. On first and second down we played well, but on third down we played terrible.”

The Vikings (1-3) drove to Trimble 40 to start the game but fumbled on a third-and-2.

After a punt. Trimble was faced with a third-and-8, but Standley hit Kacey Cruse wit a 44-yard scoring strike and a 13-0 lead.

Standley scored a 4-yard run just before the end of the quarter and then passed to Cruse for the conversion and it was 21-0.

Trimble (3-1) picked off a pass and returned the ball to the 1-yard line. Joe Eing scored on third-and-goal and it was 28-0.

A 12-yard pass to Adam Mulford with 3:04 left in the half pushed the lead to 35-0 at the break.

Brandon Keith had a 4-yard scoring run in the third quarter to make it 41-0.

After a bad snap on a punt gave Trimble the ball at the 14, Standley threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Chris Runyon on third down and it was 47-0.

“We blew some blocking assignments on crucial plays and we gave up too many big plays. But our kids never stopped playing hard,” said Webb.

Chris Capper ran for 63 yards and Hunter Boggs rushed for 61 to lead the Vikings.
