Led by medalist Nathan Kerns with a 3-under par 69, Ironton had a 327 score and was one of the top five teams to advance to the district tournament.

“We played pretty well. We shot better than 350 last year, so we had quite of an improvement,” said Ironton coach Jeff Kerns.

Kerns had 13 pars, four birdies and just one bogey over the 18-hole course.

Andy Holtzapfel, Josh Cooke, and John Williams all carded an 86 to round out Ironton’s total. Mason Weisgarber was the No. 5 golfer for Ironton and shot an 89.

Portsmouth West took advantage of playing on its home course by shooting a 308 to win the sectional.

West Union had a 310 score to finished second, Wheelersburg was just one stroke ahead of Ironton, and Piketon had a 344 total to place fifth, also one shot ahead of the next team, Lucasville Valley.

Ironton will play in the district tournament at Cook’s Creek on Wednesday, Oct. 3.
