Complaints about drug activity on a bar parking lot has led to more attention from Ironton — and an arrest.

Timothy Jenkins, 51, of 410 Scioto Ave., Ironton, was arrested just after midnight Wednesday morning on the parking lot of Illusions, Fourth and Center streets, and charged with one count each of possession of criminal tools, trafficking in drugs, possession of drug abuse instruments and two counts of possession of drugs.

He was taken to the Lawrence County Jail.

“We had been getting complaints of drug activity on the Illusions parking lot,” Ironton Police Capt. Jim Carey said. “So we started watching the area more closely and Capt. Ross made this arrest.”

Carey said Ross was on patrol when he spotted a car parked on the Illusions lot and the occupant was behaving in a manner consistent with drug use.

When Ross pulled his cruiser on the lot he found evidence of drug paraphernalia. A search of the vehicle uncovered plastic bags containing crack cocaine and marijuana as well as scales and crack pipes.

The combined amount of crack totaled approximately 2 grams. The marijuana amounted to just under 4 grams.

Earlier this week, officers with the Lawrence County Drug and Major Crimes Task Force and Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies rounded up several people on drug charges as a result of secret indictments handed down by the Lawrence County grand jury.

Joseph Robert Lewis, 59, of 31 Private Drive 18, Ironton, was charged with trafficking in drugs. During his arrest officers confiscated morphine, percocet, vicodin and xanax pills and $3,000 in cash.

Jason Shope, 28, of 1503 N. Fifth St., Ironton, was arrested on multiple counts of trafficking in drugs in the vicinity of children.

Marvin D. Salyers, 47, of 2218 N. Fifth St., Ironton, was arrested on charges of trafficking in drugs in the vicinity of

a child.

Ben Smith, 29, of 920 High St., Coal Grove, was arrested on a charge of trafficking in drugs in the vicinity of

a child.

Petina Vasquez, 28, 223 Township

Road 1186, South Point, was arrested on a charge of trafficking in drugs in the vicinity of

a child.

Drug arrests have occupied law enforcement on both sides of the river. An Ironton man was one of three people arrested Tuesday night near Horn Hollow in Greenup County following a traffic stop that led to drug charges.

Aaron Clement, 23, of Ironton, is charged with giving an officer a false name and address, driving without a license, not having auto registration, driving without insurance, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of burglary tools.

Two Kentucky men were arrested at the same time and charges with possessing burglary tools.

According to a statement from the Kentucky State Police, Ashland post, Trooper Matt Girdwood was on routine patrol on KY 67 (Industrial Parkway) near Horn Hollow when he spotted a vehicle parked alongside a vacant parking lot, which appeared suspicious. Girdwood turned on the vehicle and that is when the driver allegedly sped away. After Girdwood stopped the vehicle, he discovered marijuana in it, and searched the vehicle.

During the investigation, Clement provided a false name to authorities.
