Four area hospitals, a clinic and two doctors will be providing free health screenings Wednesday at the Senior Center in Sybene.

The screenings include a blood profile (12 hours fasting required), prostate screening and PSA blood work (fasting required), chiropractic care, blood pressure, height and weight, facial skin cancer screening, muscle testing, acupressure, hearing, lung function, pulse/oxygen, swallow screening, balance and flexibility, bone density and stress screening.

The Bellefonte Mobile Unit will provide mammogram screening, however, pre-registration is required by calling (800) 977-8378.

“All the screenings are free with the exception of the mammogram,” said Marilyn Howard, of the Lawrence County AARP Chapter.

Bellefonte will need insurance information to bill the insurance company for the mammogram screening.

Durable medical power of attorney and living wills will also be prepared.

Cabell Huntington Hospital, King’s Daughters Medical Center, Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital, Holzer Medical Center of Gallipolis, CAO Medical Clinics, Dr. Mark K. Scott and Dr. Jason Runyon will be providing the screenings.

Other organizations will provide educational materials.

Lunch is $3.50 and will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. by the CAO Senior Services program.

Any person age 50 and older may participate in the screenings.

“It’s an opportunity to obtain all these free screenings and see if there is a potential problem and if so they can go for diagnostic work with their physician,” Howard said. “Many times we have taken people right from the clinic to the hospital. Last year we had information come back to us that cancer was found. A lot of things are found through screenings. The hospitals do an excellent job.”
